Rust

Photos of paint

2007 Jeep Cherokee paint chipping

I am the proud owner of a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I've been very happy with for the last 3 and a half years. Up till now I've had no major problems regarding performance and quality, but unfortunately I know have an issue. The paint on the roof of my car has begun to chip off and is showing rust underneath. I am well aware of the natural ware and tare associated with cars but since my car is only a little over 3 years old and has approximately 37,000 miles on it I would not expect this to happen.

I took my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Shaver Jeep, where I purchased it, for it's 36,000 mile service and showed the chipped paint to my service provider. He said "I have NEVER seen this before on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The paint should not be chipping off on such a new car." He even asked me if I'd had the car repainted since there seemed to be a protective layer of material/paint missing from underneath the black paint. He then proceeded to take photos of the roof and the rest of the car on which he found additional cracks in the paint that were not normal.

Since my Jeep's 36,000 mile warranty had already expired my service provider said he would submit this photos to Chrysler to see if they would have the paint fixed. I was optimistic that they would say yes to the repairs but was wrong. Shaver Jeep called to let me know Chrysler had said no because my car was not under warranty. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am that Chrysler would so quickly dismiss my claim simply because my warranty was expired by about about 1,000 miles.

My husband and I take great pride in having purchased American made cars and the service/quality their manufacturers provide. It is my hope that through this blog I can discuss this issue with other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners who may share the same problem or be given some advice on how to resolve this issue.
